Commercial pools and spas must maintain a minimum chlorine residual to keep the water sanitized, and they are typically regulated by the local health department. In addition, maintaining the proper pH level of the pool water is essential to increase the effectiveness of sanitizers and prevent equipment and pool surface wear. To achieve this, Stenner peristaltic metering pumps are often used to inject sodium hypochlorite for sanitization and muriatic acid to adjust the pH.

Due to changing environmental conditions and fluctuating bather loads, ORP/pH controllers are frequently used in combination with metering pumps. These controllers are specifically designed to monitor the water chemistry and automatically activate the chlorine or acid metering pump to maintain the appropriate water chemistry.
